This trompe-l’oeil is amazing…it makes me want to take a little
spontaneous trip somewhere! See more here .
One lazy Sunday afternoon while we were visiting in Basel we decided to stop by the Paper Museum. It had been recommended by our professor and I am SO glad we listened. On the bottom floor
was an original working paper mill where we could make our own paper and THEN on the top two floors there was nothing but letterpress goodness… lead type, presses, and letter punch demonstrations
Amazing sand art by Jim Denevan…geometric patterns at such a large scale! His methods are so creative. But even more interesting is his
culinary adventure, Outstanding in the Field…dinner with hundreds all at one table. {via DwellStudio}
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my co-blogger Audra, its her birthday in
Basel right now! Party popper chandelier by Stuart Haygarth.

This summer I am getting to spend three weeks in Basel, Switzerland at the Basel School of Design. While I am here, I am participating in a poster design and typography workshop taught by the schools full time faculty. The design over here is so clean and fresh,
even the trash bags are beautifully designed. Yesterday we joined the locals in their tradition of floating down the Rhine River, it was a bit chilly but definitely worth it. I think a girl could get used to this.
World’s first upside down house, created for a local zoo in Gettorf, Germany. Even crazier…the inside is too!
The house was inspired by the home described in Roald Dahl’s children’s book The Twits. Open to the public.
CT is a graffiti artist in Turin, Italy. Most of his works contain bold geometric + typographical elements. I think they
are pretty cool. He has many many more that you can check out here.
I think this project is pretty amazing. Artist Steve Powers is working to complete a series of 50 murals along one of Philadelphia’s railways. He and 40 other artists
came together to produce these “Love Letters” across the urban landscape. Read more about this inspiring project on his site www.aloveletterforyou.com.
So this is a little movie about the lost art of hand painted advertising. It’s what my dad used to do for a living
and also what I would like to do my thesis on, hopefully. Watch it above or here. {www.mothernewyork.com}
